article summary —

A new edition of our book Europe by Rail: The Definitive Guide is published in April 2022. This 17th edition of the title includes better Swiss coverage than ever before with a new route that takes in Lake Lucerne and Lake Maggiore.

Over the years, we’ve introduced many new Alpine routes into Europe by Rail, and with this new edition we’ve made space for the classic Gotthard railway which opened 140 years ago this summer. With the inauguration of the new Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2016, that classic Gotthard route was relegated to secondary status.

The 17th edition of the guidebook also includes three new journeys from Vienna, running respectively to Trieste, the Black Sea coast of Romania and eastern Slovakia. You’ll find better coverage of the Baltic and we offer a new slow route from Paris to Geneva and a rail-sea route to Greece. Find out more at www.europebyrail.eu. The book’s ISBN is 978-3-945225-03-5.
