A look ahead to hidden europe 10.

In hidden europe 10, due out on 5 September, we shall cross the thresholds of some synagogues that have long been bereft of Jews. How often it is, on our wanderings through Europe, that we chance upon an abandoned synagogue. Whether it be the crumbling synagogue in Ponta Delgada in the Azores or the great domed temple that stands silent sentinel in Lucenec (Slovakia), there is something remarkable about these buildings that attest to the former vitality of Europe's lost Jewish kehillot.

And we shall check out an extraordinary modern migration. These past weeks have been memorable ones for the village of Haidemühl in eastern Germany. Over five hundred people have left, and by September the village will be entirely empty.
